Hollyoaks favourite James Sutton has quit the Channel 4 soap, Digital Spy can exclusively confirm.
The 25-year-old, who has captured the hearts of millions since 2006 playing the role of gay student John Paul McQueen, will bow out of the soap in September for pastures new.
His exit will naturally coincide with the brief return of Guy Burnet as John Paul's old flame Craig Dean, who makes a comeback in a bid to rekindle their romance.
When John Paul sees Craig again for the first time since Craig left for Trinity College, Dublin, his life is thrown into complete disarray. His feelings for Craig begin to resurface and he's forced to make the biggest decision of his life - stay with his fiancé, Father Kieron Hobbs (Jake Hendriks), or reunite with his former love.
The situation soon takes a sinister and fatal twist, however, resulting in Craig moving one step closer to the sunset ending he returned for.
Speaking of his decision to quit, Sutton said: "I’ve had a really great time working on Hollyoaks but after much thought I’ve decided that it’s time to bring it to an end."
He continued: "I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Bryan Kirkwood and everyone at Hollyoaks for making my time here so memorable. I’m also really grateful to the viewers for their continued support and commitment to the character and the storyline."
Producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "In two short years, James Sutton has achieved amazing success in his role as John Paul McQueen. His sensitive and honest portrayal of a young man coming to terms with his sexuality and dealing with the aftermath has captivated viewers and critics, won many awards and has been at the heart of Hollyoaks' recent success. James will, I’m sure, go on to great things."
Sutton films his final scenes in July and will depart on screen in September.
Earlier this year, John Paul and Craig's affair storyline was honoured at the Stonewall awards.

Heidi wants to record a Christmas album
There is a different side to Heidi Montag that you don't see on MTV's The Hills, the 21-year-old budding singer tells USA Today.
"I have been the most religious person since I was 2 years old. I always felt this crazy connection to God," says Montag, who identifies herself as "kind of non-denominational Baptist."
Montag — who just released her latest single "Fashion" and frequently reads the Bible — says she even wants to record a Christian album.
She adds that she once planned on devoting her life to God as a missionary in Africa.
She and beau Spencer Pratt — who just attacked Mary-Kate Olsen after she said he had a bad temper in high school — will head there in August to "feed children and help build things."
(Pratt noted that they could adopt a baby while there, but Montag said, "not right now. I think we'd be married before we do that.")
Despite Jesus teaching forgiveness, Montag says that rule likely won't apply to her relationship with Lauren Conrad.
"I don't think people are ever going to get that," she says of a reconciliation. (Still, she insists Conrad will "always have a place in my heart.")
Of Conrad's claim that Montag spread those sex tape rumors, Montag says: "God knows the truth in all of this, and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that matters. Jesus was persecuted, and I'm going to get persecuted, ya know?"
As for the new season of The Hills (the first of 19 episodes debut August 18), Montag says viewers will get to meet her old sister Holly, an aspiring filmmaker who once lived with her and Conrad.
"Holly and Lauren were inseparable for a while," Montag says. "But they stopped being friends when Lauren and I stopped being friends."

Michelle cheated on Andy
When Michelle Heaton & Andy Scott Lee announced they are splitting no one really cared. Now Andy has spoken out about why they split and now the pairs split is very interesting.
Andy said that he dumped Michelle because he found a message on her Facebook account that she'd sent to a friend talking about how she'd spent two nights in a hotel room with Matt Di Angelo.
Michelle & Matt became good friends after filming a TV show together. At the time Matt was also in a relationship but has since split with his girlfriend.
Andy said in the message Michelel told her friend they didn't do anything in bed together but they just "played with each other".
Andy said: "My heart was pounding as I read my wife telling her friend how sexy Matt was. The worst part was, I'd met Matt last year and we'd got on well. Michelle cheated on me before but always denied it, so I expected she would lie again. I'd had enough of her lies, so I told her the marriage was over."

Pamela has slagged Jessica of because of a t-shirt she wore saying "Real Girls Eat Meat." Vegetarian Pamela wasn't very happy about this and slatted her on an Australian radio show after calling her a bitch and a whore she added "Actually, I don't know if she was talking about food or men."
Of all people Pamela Anderson can't call anyone a whore she's slept with that many men she's probably lost count.
Britney is upset with her Mum
Britney Spears is very upset about her Mum releasing a book about her and Jamie Lynn. Closer Magazine are reporting that Britney doesn't want to be in the same room as her Mum."Britney is reportedly furious over her mother's plan to release a book about her. [She] is so angry with her mother Lynne Spears' decision to publish the tome - which details both Britney and her sister Jamie Lynn's showbiz lives - she refuses to be in the same room as her. Britney was so upset and angry with her mom that at first she refused to be at the birth. She couldn't bear to be in the same room as her [Lynne]. But when Jamie Lynn found out that Britney might not be in there, she got really frightened and couldn't stop crying. She begged her sister to reconsider, and at the last minute Britney agreed to come. Britney feels that just as she is moving forward, her mom is dragging her back. She'd even offered to pay her mom the equivalent of the book money to keep her quiet."
Lynne has been living of her daughters for years but this is a low blow even for her. Britneys sorted her self out and is back on track and Jamie Lynn has just become a Mum. Lynne needs to get her priorities sorted out and be a Mum instead of just whoring her kids out all the time.

Everyone was shocked that Winehouse had hit an audience member at Glastonbury but there are several reasons going around that she hit the man.
Her rep claims someone grabbed her hair so she "reacted." Glastonbury organisers claim someone grabbed hold of her breasts and witnesses say that the man she hit said something bad about Blake to Amy and that's why she punched him.
A witness said 'I could not hear exactly what was said - it was some comment about Blake. Amy reacted by just losing it. She leaned into the crowd and whacked him. It wasn't just a little slap, she then kind of retreated back to the stage before charging in again for another go like she was scrapping in a pub.'

Russian Model commits suicide
Twenty-year-old model Ruslana Korshunova jumped to her death from the ninth-floor balcony of her New York City apartment in an apparent suicide Saturday.
There were no signs of a struggle inside Korshunova's downtown apartment police told the The New York Post.
The 5-foot-8 model from Kazakhstan, 20, was dubbed, "The Russian Rapunzel," for her long, flowing hair. She graced the covers of French Elle and Russian Vogue, and appeared in ads for March Jacobs, DKNY, Vera Wang and Christian Dior.
"Our hearts are with her family," a spokesperson for Korshunova's agency, IMG (who also reps Heidi Klum and Kate Moss) told The New York Post.
A pal told The New York Post that Korshunova had just returned from a modeling gig in Paris and seemed to be "on top of the world."
In months leading up to her apparent suicide, Korshunova ranted about love on a Web site, New York's Daily News reported Sunday.
"Do not confuse love and desire," Korshunova wrote on May 30. "Love is the sun, desire - only flash. Desire dazzles, and the sun gives life."
On March 11, the green-eyed beauty wrote, "I'm a witch. I don't care what you say!!! I know what it is. I know why my other relationships didn't work out, 'cause I'm unpredictable. Why are you afraid of it?"
In another telling post, the model who was to turn 21 on July 2, wrote, "I'm so lost. Will I ever find myself?"
